Market Days Update

Thank you to all who participated in the Market Days Feedback Process, and to those who served on the MD Feedback Task Force, which was responsible for summarizing community feedback in a report provided to Main Street’s Board of Directors.

On Nov. 10th, the Board voted on Market Days 2012; keep reading to learn more…

The Process

  • August 23, 2011 – Kick Off of Market Days Feedback Process at Main Street Concord Quarterly Public Meeting (requested feedback, reviewed process/timeline + invited attendees to join MD Feedback Task Force)
  • September 20, 2011 – Market Days Community Forum at Red River Theatres
  • September 30, 2011 – Written Feedback Deadline
  • October 6, 2011 – MD Feedback Task Force review of Community Forum and written feedback; preparation of Report (Task Force Members: Gena Cohen Moses (resident), Sue McCoo (Capitol Craftsman), Kim Murdoch (MSCI Staff), Andrew Hatch (Lotions ‘n Potions), Jeff Roberge (Joe King’s), Brian Shea (Barley House))
  • October 13, 2011 – MD Feedback Task Force Report presented to Board of Directors
  • November 10, 2011 – Main Street’s Board of Directors discussion, deliberation, and vote on Market Days 2012

 The Outcome

After reviewing results of the Community Forum, as well as written input from 300+ individuals, Main Street Concord’s Board of Directors voted on the basic structure of Market Days 2012:

  • The (3) day event, renamed Market Days Festival, will be held Thursday, July 19th – Saturday, July 21st
  • The event will focus on participation from LOCAL merchants and businesses, with a tiered approach used to fill space on Main Street; preference will be given to Main Street/Downtown/Concord businesses.  The event will be marketed to attract a STATEWIDE audience of attendees
  • All events and elements of the Market Days Festival will be evaluated based on community feedback and cost/benefit before inclusion in 2012.
  • The 2012 Market Days Festival will move away from a main stage area to more dispersed and diverse entertainment options; this will significantly reduce expenses while encouraging circulation of attendees throughout downtown.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be re-engaging our MD Feedback Task Force members, and seeking additional community volunteers to help with the production of a fantastic Market Days Festival in 2012.  If you have any questions, or are interested in volunteering, please contact Kim Murdoch at kmurdoch@mainstreetconcord.com or 226.2150.

Downtown Housing Market Demand Survey

Working closely with City Staff, we've developed a comprehensive survey designed to gauge demand for "market rate" downtown housing.

Data collected by this effort will be used to better inform developers about the demand for this type of housing and give them more confidence about pursuing such projects in downtown Concord.

We're seeking at least 300 respondents so please be sure to take the survey!

Thank you to all who participated in the survey!  Read about survey results here.
